Water hammer is a common issue in modern potable water systems, occurring when fast-acting mechanisms - such as quarter-turn ceramic disc taps, washing machine valves, or solenoid-controlled appliances - shut off instantly. This creates a high-pressure shockwave that travels backwards through the pipe network.
